We have 2 instances of Confluence, both using the WAR distro. We have 3.5.13 and 5.4.4. Is it possible to do a direct migration of the database? Or must we follow the regular upgrade path?

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately there's no way to migrate the data from one older confluence to a newer one. Doing this way will probably lead to data corruption since the database does not update the data and create new tables with this process.

I recommend to test the upgrade in a staging instance first to avoid problems directly with production.

First create a test environment using a exact same version as production, then test the upgrade there in order to check compatibility and possible issues that might arise.

Cheers,

Rodrigo
