mapping/fixing broken links in a new confluence. Group Export

Jessica Foo August 31, 2014

Hi All,

My company has recently merged two separate confluences onto a new instance.

We tried importing the users(we did a full back up of one confluence, then manually imported the spaces from the other confluence). there does appear to be some broken links. Confluence doesn't seem to automatically map the users the their posts together so we sometimes get posts by (annonymous) users.

In addition, obviously, the groups have not come across automatically, and we'll need to recreate them. What is the most efficient way of doing this:? Is it possible to export/import a group? Or is there any way of extracting the users from them, so we can easily recreate the groups in the new confluence?

Many thanks everyone! :)

Hi Jessica,

Usually merging confluence instances is not an easy task. If you have used the space xml export functionality, the users are not migrated, nor the groups.

Unfortunately Confluence does not have the functionality to export and import users and groups from one instance to the other. If the users from one confluence don't exist in the other instance, they won't be recognized.

I recommend to have the same user directories in both confluence, so when you import the space xml, it should work.

Cheers,

Rodrigo
