after upgrading to latest confluence pages don't render HTML

Ami Sadeh December 7, 2017

hello! after upgrading from Confluence 3.4 to 6.5.1 via the documented upgrade path all seems to be working however when viewing pages the page is showing the full html source/markup instead of rendering it. for example:

<p>

i am saying something <b>bold</b>

</p>

instead of showing:

I am saying something bold

I believe somewhere in that upgrade chain, Atlassian removed the ability for pages to be marked up with HTML. There were a number of editor changes between the versions you have upgraded through. They did keep a HTML macro for rendering HTML content, but the plugin needs to be enabled to be used by a Confluence Administrator.

Thanks for that info Rian, it was very helpful. I am able to edit a page and move its content to into an HTML macro block. Do you know if there is a way to bulk update my pages? it would be kind of hard to go one by one
