Why does Confluence try to use Word to open an Excel file?

Jane Vorhies August 19, 2012

Hi

My computer is just starting to use Confluence. I am in the pilot group. I am having problems opening Excel files in Confluence - it tries to open them with Word. The problem seems to be around when click on one of the 'Edit' options. I have been able to download the file, modify, then upload, but when I try to edit it just starts opening Word.

That's usually your machine set up to do that, rather than Confluence. Confluence is telling your browser "here's an excel file", and your browser is deciding what to open it with.

Look in the browsers options and default programs for opening files.

(Also, check versions - some versions of Excel/Word can get confused about the document type)

I had to 'repair' my Office installation.

Thanks for the response...
