Sometimes just calling a wiki a "wiki" is scary for new users. I'm interested in learning how people have named their wiki.

Would you like to share?

  • What do you call your corporate wiki?
  • How was the name chosen? (eg is it a "Purpose-oriented" name, or something just fun to say?
  • Do users think of it as a wiki or simply as a useful system?

Thanks for sharing!

John.

We just called it "the wiki". People tended to know what a wiki is so it avoided confusion. The one thing we avoid in general is naming any service after a product as users shouldn't have to know what the underlying technology is and it causes problems if you subsequently decide to change the product that is providing a service.

we just call it "HM-Wiki", not really thrilling, but it's working. HM is an acronym for our company name.

The funniest name I've heard is 'Marvin'. Another company named their wiki after the robot in Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's Guide". Marvin knows everything, but noone wants to hear it...

Bitbucket is taken, unfortunately :) Knowledge Base was one I used previously (partly inspired by a simple /kb url!). Confluence also works!
