What about the storage limit?

Hans Tubbax June 3, 2019

In Feb Atlassian announced a storage limit of 250GB for their Cloud products (regardless of user tier !).

Since we are building our documentation site in Confluence and wanting to implement instruction video's (and other media), this hard limit of 250GB is becoming an issue.

If we are uncertain about the future plans about this limit and if Atlassian themselves state that 'Currently it isn't possible to increase your Atlassian Cloud storage limit', how can we be assured that we don't run into problems in the near future?

Hello there!
This is a pretty reasonable question and also a matter that needs your attention, Hans. Let me start by stating that Storage Limits Are Not Currently Enforced in our Cloud platform. Check out this excerpt from our documentation:

Storage limits in Cloud are not currently enforced. We are revising our storage policy in Cloud and will roll out more options for purchasing additional storage, along with enforcing the limits, sometime in 2019. We will notify you in advance before we roll out these changes.

Meaning that, For The Time Being, we can even exceed the limit of 250GB to a certain degree. Further down the document we have the information that anything new on this topic will be shared with customers:

If your Atlassian Cloud products exceed the storage limit, your instance will not be suspended, except in extreme circumstances, and we will not remove any data. If you exceed your storage limit by a small amount, and you're storing acceptable types of data, your products will continue to work.

We try to provide the best possible experience for our customers, which is why Atlassian keeps reviewing the storage limits policy. Atlassian is also Devising Options For Purchasing Additional Storage Options. This still does not have a fixed deadline or roadmap to happen.

If you happen to reach the limit of 250GB or just want to play a little safer around this topic, you could use Third-Party Tools such as Office Files plugin. These third-party tools do not use the built-in storage capacities of Atlassian cloud and do no count towards the overall limit of the applications. For more information, you can check here:

Let us hear from you Hans! Looking forward to your reply.

Essentially what you are saying is "there is a limit, but ... there is no limit yet, but ... in the future there will be a limit, but ...  we cannot say what the consequences will be for you"

Although the answer doesn't take away the uncertainty about the storage limit, I'll accept the answer (for now). I hope we get a more satisfying answers in the near future.

Hello there @Hans Tubbax ! I have got some more information on this matter for you or anyone else who falls into this thread.

Recently, Atlassian has released Cloud Premium, which is a paid set of features that is currently in Early Access. One of these features is Unlimited Storage Space, which I believe perfectly suits you Hans! You can check more about this for both Confluence and Jira here:

You can Join The Waitlist by going in the links above and requesting it. There is one important detail of the Early Access stage:

Premium is free while it’s in early access and there’s no commitment to buy.

So, let us know about your thoughts on this Hans! Looking forward to your reply.

If we have Jira Work Managment for some users and Jira Software for others, and we use Jira Software Premium, does this mean that our limit for both products will be unlimited?
