User manual, different versions and languages

Sam Heijens June 27, 2016

We're using Confluence Cloud as our internal knowledge base, and also single public space for Customer Support. We're looking into putting our manuals also in confluence to make them easier to access for our users, and faster to update for our developers.

We need to create our manual in different languages. As the content is the same, only the language is different, I would want to avoid having different pages for each language. The approach taken by https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/ch.bitvoodoo.confluence.plugins.language/server/overview seems pretty good. Only downside is the language should be user-selectable, and not coming from the user-settings.

In addition to this, we need to snapshot our manual for each release, and make them separately accessible as not all of our users are on the same version. I've found the scroll versions plugin, which seems to provide the 'different versions' part. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.k15t.scroll.scroll-versions/server/overview

BUT... we're using the cloud, and none of these features/plugins are available for the cloud.

How would you create such a system using the cloud?

Hi Steven,

Thanks for mentioning Scroll Versions here.

Besides Scroll Versions we also have Scroll Translations (see https://www.k15t.com/software/scroll-translations), allowing your users to pick the wanted language.

Unfortunately our Scroll add-ons are currently not available for Confluence Cloud - we have an improvement for tracking the compatibility with Confluence Cloud here: https://k15t.jira.com/browse/VSN-1828

We've started working on a cloud compatible version for our Scroll PDF Exporter already (private Beta to be available soon, see https://www.k15t.com/blog/2016/05/atlascamp-2016-bringing-big-news-to-barcelona), so Confluence Cloud is definitively on our roadmap.

However, currently I can't give you an ETA, when Scroll Versions and Scroll Translations will be available for Confluence Cloud, as it's quite complex and can't be transferred to the Cloud architecture easily. Please vote and watch the mentioned issue to get an update on every change.

Best,
Nils
