Unable to view pages after removing restrictions

Several pages in our space have been restricted by an unavailable user. I've removed these restrictions, but I still encounter a permissions error stating, "You don't have permission to view this page." When I try to request access, I receive the message: "Access request unsuccessful. Your request for access has not been sent.

I have full space permissions. Any help or advice is welcome.

Hi @Chris F

By the message in your second screenshot, I'd like to confirm something: Are you clicking on the padlock icon from the columns operation in the Restriction list for the page you want to access?

If yes, although clicking on the padlock icon remove that specifically restriction, it does not remove all restrictions.

To avoid that, please go back to the restrictions list (in the space settings > restrictions), find the page you want to remove the restrictions and instead of clicking with the left button of your mouse in the padlock icon, try the right button instead
Choose the option "Open in a new tab" for all padlock icons and please feel free to ignore the new tabs open when doing this operation.

Once you refresh the page after doing this for all padlock icons for that specifc page, and closing any new tabs open (the tabs will have the same message from your second screenshot), you should be able to access the page that was restricted previously, through its URL link.

Let me know if that works!

Now, if the page was removed all restrictions and is not listed in the space settings > restricted and you still cannot access the page, please let us know and we can review it on a ticket together, as we may need access to your site to understand if there is something on and not working as expected.

Regards,
Jessica

Hi @Jessica

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. I've tried to carry out the steps that you've outlined, but I'm not getting a 'Session Expired' error when trying to remove restrictions.

Please let me know what I need to do to move this to a ticket.session_expired.PNG

Hey @Chris F

The issue with the restrictions, although I wasn't getting the errors when replying to you that day, I got another report of the same issue, and it seems it was raised an incident for it, as it should be working as mentioned in my last message.

For the restricted page you are no longer able to see, even though you removed the restriction, I have raised the support ticket to follow up on this, as we may need data access to check on it: https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/23/JST-1082180

If you have any other issues going with the restrictions or permissions, feel free to add a comment in the ticket as well! We'll be contacting you soon there. :)

Cheers,
Jessica

Hi @Chris F

You can remove the restriction using the administrator role:

  1. If you have space access, then go to space settings --> Permissions --> Restricted pages. Here you  can view list of all restricted pages and grant access to yourself and then go to page restrictions and add required users.
  2. If your access to the space itself is blocked, then go to admin settings --> General configuration --> Space permissions. Search for the required space key or name and click on Recover. This will grant you access to the restricted space and then do the step 1.

Best regards

Sam

Hi Sam,

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me! So I have access to the 'Restricted pages' screen, and I can remove the restrictions, but doing so still doesn't open the page up.

The other problem I have is that once I remove the restrictions that page no longer shows up anyway. It's no longer on the 'Restricted pages' screen and I can't search for it.
