As seen in https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/Preview-Gitlab-files-on-Confluence-pages-and-Jira-tickets/ba-p/1507718#U1541568, it is possible to preview GitLab files.

Does this integration work for self-hosted GitLab instances too? If so, how can I configure it?

Currently, the Smart Link feature does not work with On-Premises GitLab. Our Smart Link feature works with the Cloud based solutions listed in this document:
