How to create a proposed tree structure before it replaces the existing one?  Is there a type of sandbox for development?  Do I create a new space then rename as the original?  Do I use my personal space then somehow export it?

@Melva Wyatt Welcome to the Atlassian community

If you are on Server you can set up a sandbox instance and make the changes there.  That would be the best because you can then discuss it before implementing it.  If you do not have that available you would not want to clone a space because you could lose the versioning depending on how it is done.

Thank you Brant.  Where can I find general instructions how to access the Confluence sandbox in the server?

@Melva Wyatt If you are on Data Center of Server you would need to stand up your own sandbox instance.  You can then get a development license off of your production license.
