Powerpoint deck uploaded to Confluence no longer displays the first page as a preview

Sara De Jesus January 15, 2025

I upload all my Powerpoint presentations to Confluence.

My older presentations showed (and still show) the first slide as a preview, just as it appears in Powerpoint.

The most recent ones I've uploaded over the past few months no longer show the first slide. Instead, I get a grey "box" with the presentation title inside of it, but massively truncated.

What can I do to fix this?

Hi @Sara De Jesus ,

I'm not sure if we're talking about Confluence cloud or DC.

As for cloud, once you add PPT attachment to a page, it is usually rendered and previewed as a (smaller) card.

Once you add PPT as an attachment on current or any other page, you could use Office PowerPoint macro to embed the presentation into a page itself. (I think that works on DC as well).

Other than that, in cloud, you can also use Smart Links and which would embed the PPT into a page itself if you've stored it somewhere on the cloud (e.g. OneDrive).

If you could maybe share some screenshots of what you're currently seeing and how older pages look like, this could help us determine what might be the issue there.

Cheers,
Tobi

@Sara De Jesus sorry for the delayed response can you maybe just share information about hosting type? Are we talking about Confluence cloud or Data Center (DC)? It feels like this is DC but I would just like to confirm.
In case it's DC, can you share which version you're using?

Cheers,
Tobi

I'm afraid I don't know.

I was given/assigned a Confluence page and asked to upload all my research onto it.

I don't use Confluence much, otherwise.

How can I tell whether I have Confluence cloud or Data Center (DC)?

Can you direct me?

Thank you in advance!

Sara

No worries Sara! Here's one article I would suggest looking at as it describes the differences between Cloud and DC: How do you know if you are on Confluence Cloud or Server/Data Center?

Although this thing with URL isn't necessarily true as since 2023/2024, you can also use custom domains on the cloud.

So, I would suggest using method #2 and looking at the bottom of your Confluence UI/Home.
