People Directory shows multiple instances of the same user

We are using Active Directory to populate the user base, and have enabled nested groups. Most users appear only once, but several users appear multiple times (4, 6, 7 times).

When viewing users in Confluence-Admin, all is good, each user appears exactly once. But in the People Directory, and also when using Team Calendar to select someone for a People Calendar, we are seeing the multiples.

I have checked the CONTENT table in the Confluence database, and it appears correct as is the cwd_user table.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Searched all over and shortly after submitting my question, I found this:

I did a content re-index and all the duplicates magically disappeared.
