Migration to new Active Directory or LDAP

jboutin March 21, 2014

We've have recently been aquired by a new company. As a result, our confluence (and Jira) databases need to authenticate users against a new DB.

Currently the user database is synchronized against Active Directory A. We will likely have to move to authenicate against a new user database.

This means that user flast@companyA will move to first.last@companyB.

How does this affect licensing and page ownership?

Can anyone recommend any whitepapers or articales with best practices here?

Hi there,

Newer versions of JIRA and Confluence support username change, so once you rename the user it won't affect licensing or page owership (see this doc).

However, the rename operation needs to be done before the migration to the new LDAP. This is because JIRA/Confluence use an User Unique ID Attribute to identify username changes in your LDAP and this attribute wil be different in the new LDAP server.

Cheers
