Link to another space

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Working with Links

When I insert a link to another space, should I insert a link from source to source, published to published or source to published? When my target space has another version will the link work? Example: I have a version 10 space that will be the target, a month from now I am going to publish version 11. I will also publish version 11 of the space where the link will reside. How will the link work in that case?

Do you actually create a new space for each version instead of just update the space?
