Is there a way to migrate a space in confluence 4.2 to 6.3

Myron Flickner August 23, 2017

From 6.3 restore

Upload and restore a site/space backup.

This site accepts full site imports from Confluence 4.0 and later, and space imports from Confluence 5.3 and later.

What is your question?

How do you migrate a space in a confluence  v4.2 to confluence v6.3.  This isnt' supported natively using xml backup/restore.

Well, you can try it - a space export can work when imported on a much later version.

The official way to do it, which will work, is to take a copy of your 4.2 system (or just the space), stick it into a dev system on 4.2, upgrade it to 6.3, then export from there and you'll be able to get it into the 6.3 production.

I tried the 4.2 export/6.3 import before posting - it fails.  Error message below.

Backups made prior to Confluence 4.0 (build 3047) can not be restored. This backups build number was missing.

I'll try your suggestion.
