Is there a way to edit the raw source code?

gerdami September 18, 2012

I may miss something but I find difficult to edit a page that contains sections, columns, panels etc., especially when trying to copy and paste or to move blocks of codes.

Is there a way to edit/copy/paste the raw source code, as it was the case with Confluence 2.9.x

We are now running 4.2.13.

Thanks a lot. Will ask our admins.

People should be aware that if they are using page layouts (instead of section and column macros), the Source Editor is not available.

It says the add-on is unsupported. Why is it not supported? Are there any risks installing/using it?

It's unsupported because Atlassian has not had the time to maintain it. There are a lot of open bugs and feature requests currently. You can check out their issue board here

Full disclosure, out organization has our own version of this plugin which is supported with data center compatibility. It has a lot of those bugs resolved and a few more features added. You can it check out here and see a list of differences here.

You can see the the source code of a page by clicking on Tools > View storage format. From there you should be able to copy the raw source code of a page.

To edit the raw source code of a page more easily than modifying the database, you could configure a WebDAV client and edit the pages as text files.

Thank you for your quick reply.

However, from the tools menu, I do not see the "View storage format":

The "View Storage Format" option is only shown to administrators.

As mentioned by Matthew Horn, the better solution would be to install the source editor plugin.
