We are using Greenhopper's rapid board with the estimated time and remaining time fields.

Is there a way to have the remaining hours burn down to zero automatically when you close a task or move it to the done column?

Yep. Sure is. You can do with with a post function called "Update Issue Field" in your workflow. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like in our configuration:
