Is there a way to add spaces to the top menu bar?

I want to add spaces across the top menu bar beside the Dashboard icon. That would include personal spaces for each user.

If you use the default theme there is a spaces menu that shows your most recent five spaces.

Im using a refined wiki theme which allows you to add categories with spaces in them along the top bar but not spaces on their own

You can use aplication navigator. Administration console - Application Navigator (third from end).

Or do you mean something else?

Thanks but its not quite what im looking for. To the right of the dashboard icon i want to add 5 or so spaces that I use most frequently going from left to right. Each user can then modify it themselves to suite them.
