The Tasklist macro is good but doesn't have any area to add extra comments or reference attachments - can something be added?

I use one download Confluence system and one On-Demand

I am still frustrated that we still don't have a usable Tasklist

Need a free text field: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Tasklist+Macro?focusedCommentId=302812813#comment-302812813

Need a due date : https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Tasklist+Macro?focusedCommentId=302812811#comment-302812811 this is a suggestion made by someone else way back in 2006!!! Shouldn't be hard since they already have two date fields in the macro

Sorting should not be a Page history change: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Tasklist+Macro?focusedCommentId=302812810#comment-302812810

@rodney, thanks, great list. I would love it if you can add these items to my comparison spreadsheet about the different functionality of each of the three main ways to manage tasks.

I don't think you will ever get a Due Date, as if you had that there would be no need to move to JIRA.

I also don't see that there would be any more development on the Tasklist macro, since so much work has gone into the new Tasks functionality in 4.3.

@JodieM

I am like a dog with a bone .... I invite anyone to add votes to this issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-7371

Also still pushing for it in V5 ...

I don't see our organisation moving to JIRA - we are spedning enough effort getting COnfluence in use - not that Confluence is not working but we are a world wide industry association as a Body Of Knowledge so activity is part time at best but is highly colalborative - Confluence is doing just fine for that so don't know what JIRA would bring to the party

Due Dates - a Task without a due date is just a "note to self"

As for your list, feel free to include them - there is no patent or copyright on them

Hi Rodney,

Sorry to say that the tasklist macro doesn't allow any way to add comments or attachments to individual items.

However, in the next major version of Confluence, 4.3, there is a new task management system that allows you to create and assign tasks right within the page (see Release Notes here - https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Confluence+4.3-Beta1+Release+Notes#Confluence43-Beta1ReleaseNotes-Tasksonthepage)

This looks like it might be what you are looking for?

@joseph How is this an answer, I can not see anywhere where you can add Attachments to a Task item in 4.3. Yes, you can add comments but they are not seen by anyone else and they don't have a history.

Jodie - I was thinking that if you could add tasks right within the content of a page, you could just create content within the page to link to the attachments or add comment text as desired.

Thanks for that @joseph. It is really difficult to add a task that has details. Really what you need to do is add the details to the page, add a heading, then add an anchor to that heading. Then add the task list at the top of the page and insert a link into the task to that Anchor. There is no easy way, that looks good to add a task, with additional details below it as the task is indented and looks strange within other text.

Also, there is just no way you can have a bulleted list under a task.

Isn't that all a bit too complex? the simplest solution would be if you added a free text field to the TaskList macro - just like the heading field so you know how to create it - and then we can just add a link to a page with all the details in the main TaskList macro instance

Don't over think our requirements - same for a Due Date - trhere are already date fields in the macro - we just need another one!!!
