We connected both jira & confluence to the same SQL instance, and are getting continued errors and it's not working properly since then. Help!

Each application need their own database / schema as the collation for each may differ depending on the product.
You can use the same database engine, that is you dont have to onboard two different database servers, you can use the same database server as far as each application have their own database within the server.
