I have been tasked with inviting colleagues from within our organization (outside of the Support Team) to start creating knowledge articles.
Pardon for asking, yet I can invite that colleague from Confulence, Add People?

Looks like you are ok the right track. Most likely people within your team can create KB articles from JSM. However, users outside of the support team will need a Confluence license to collaborate.
Please ensure they'd have the proper space permissions so that invited users will be able to create articles.
