How to set confluence sites to read only in Bulk

Prudhvi Raju Kanithi September 2, 2024

Hello Team,

We are preparing for migration to Sharepoint and need to set several confluence sites to read-only status. Given the volume, we are looking for a way to apply this change in bulk rather than individually. Does anyone have experience with :

1. Setting Confluence sites/spaces to read-only in bulk?

2. Tools or scripts that can help automate this process?

Any guidance or recommendations on how to efficiently handle this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@Prudhvi Raju Kanithi here is a KB that addresses several ways this can be accomplished.  https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-to-make-confluence-read-only-311920317.html

Hello Brant, This is easy and helpful with the Javascript method code placed in custom HTML, we have around 3000 spaces and the access disabling will be done periodically like 150-200 spaces at once, is there a way to selectively disable some of the spaces from the total number of spaces. awaiting for your response. Thank you again.

@Prudhvi Raju Kanithi I am not a javascript master.  You can identify each space in the javascript but you would have to add each one.  It would be similar to what was done in this post https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/How-do-I-disable-the-create-page-button-for-a-specific-space/qaq-p/2017472

Hey @Prudhvi Raju Kanithi - Brant's link should be very useful for you but incase you are in the lookout for a third party application in the future - we are in development of a new product that sounds like it could be relevant to your needs. Its called Panorama and it offers comprehensive content management for Confluence including bulk permission management which you've alluded to above.

If you'd like to learn more i've provided the landing page for you below

Let me know if you have any questions :)
