How to insert Expand macro into an image link

I am creating a dashboard and have an image/button that i would like to execute the expand macro - (to display other image/buttons)
The only options I have with the image is to link to another page which takes me to the other page (not what I need)
I hav etyried using wiki markup to no avail. 
Any help or sugestions would be greatly appreciated?

@Bryn Koning This is not a delivered feature you would need to create your own user macro or see if there is a solution in the Atlassian marketplace.
