How to choose an epic when creating a Jira issue from a confluence page?

Currently, when we want to create an issue from a page we:

  • Highlight a text
  • Choose "Create issue" from the pop-up
  • The highlighted text is auto-populated in the summary field
  • Can choose the Project, Issue type and write a description

However, any other fields, most importantly parent Epic, but more parameters too, are unavailable. All of these useful and important fields are available when creating an issue from a sticky note in Whiteboards (as explained by this Atlassian guide).

How can the same issue-creating window be available in the page form?

Hi @Yochai Maytal

Usually, if you make a field required in the field configuration, the field is automatically displayed in the "Create issue" window you mentioned in Confluence (you can find more information on this here).

But since it is not possible to make the Epic Link field required (this would have unintended side effects, because it would prevent you from creating issues without an epic), you can't add this field to the "Create issue" window.

I think in general, the purpose of this Confluence feature is more like creating the raw issue with data from Confluence, and then enriching the issue in Jira afterwards.

Hope this helps.
