How to Automate an In-line figure/Stat in Confluence?

Ahmad Mayar October 30, 2022

How can I automate an inline data point so that when I edit the source point, all other pages/spaces in Confluence update the same point automatically?

For instance, updating a stat/data point in a chart could automatically update the same stat/data point in all spaces or all Google doc/docs - embedded in Confluence.

@Ahmad Mayar Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

What you are looking for is the Excerpt and Excerpt Include Macro. The excerpt is the source. The excerpt include is the embedding of that source on each page where you need the same text or data points. By updating the excerpt, all pages referencing it will update as well.

Here is the documenation: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/insert-the-excerpt-include-macro/

Also, I'll move this question from the Questions for Confluence collection to the Confluence Questions collection. Questions for Confluence is an Atlassian owned and operated app, not the location to post general questions about Confluence.

@Ahmad Mayar how did it go? Was my answer able to help you? If so, please mark it as accepted so that others can find it as well.

Hi @Andy Gladstone

Thank you for suggesting Excerpt macro, but I am afraid it didn't work with what I want or perhaps I could not use it properly.

However, I am looking for a function to help me keep my data tables automated.

I have a table of numeric figures, for example, and when I update a number in one table. it should update the same figure/number in all child-pages so I don't have to go and update the same number across all pages and contents manually.

Thanks!

@Ahmad Mayar what you are looking for is not natively supported in Confluence. However, there is a marketplace partner K15t that has Orderly Databases for Confluence that may address your need. Tagging a few team members there to get in touch with you - @Max Förster (K15t) @Matthias Gaiser _K15t_ @Matt Reiner _K15t_

Good luck!

Thank you, @Andy Gladstone  and hey @Ahmad Mayar,

I am happy to support you here.

How can I automate an inline data point so that when I edit the source point, all other pages/spaces in Confluence update the same point automatically?

For instance, updating a stat/data point in a chart could automatically update the same stat/data point in all spaces or all Google doc/docs - embedded in Confluence.

Orderly Databases is the perfect fit for your use case here if you're on Confluence Cloud. It's more dynamic than the regular static tables and more flexible and smarter than page properties. All information is stored centrally in a lightweight database in a space and can be displayed in multiple ways and edited inline anywhere with the help of a macro. The changes will then be reflected everywhere the information is displayed on pages.

The embedded documents are not something that we can update, unfortunately.

Please feel free to try Orderly out; we're happy to support you. You can also book a demo on our website: https://www.k15t.com/products/orderly-databases-for-confluence

Have a great day! :)

Best, Max

Hi Max,

Thanks for providing the information.

I believe Orderly Database is the right tool I am looking for enhancing my Confluence Cloud instance.

However, looking at the website, I couldn't see any pricing details. Would you be able to walk me through the company's pricing policy and plans first?

Thanks, Ahmad

Hi @Ahmad Mayar

You can calculate the expected monthly/annual costs for your Confluence instance on the marketplace listing itself. Orderly Databases is also free for smaller teams of up to 10 users.

Best, Max
