How does Live:Dropdown List Selector work?

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I want to add a dropdown list to my page and the only one available from the select macro dialogue is called Live:Dropdown List Selector, but I can't find any information about how this macro works. I've tried adding it anyway and giving it some options, but it just appears in the page as an error message.
