I see how to create a basic roadmap with hyperlinks and the like. no idea how to generate an advanced roadmap and directions certainly not clear (asks for URL and help is useless there).
And specific steps or the whereabouts of step-by-step instructions would be very much appreciated.

First off, Advanced Roadmap is a premium feature. If you are on premium you should see Plans as a menu option and from here you can create the roadmap. You can find the guide for Advanced roadmaps here.
