How can we remove the dashboard for technical documentation to give to our customers?

Hi there,

I am aware that Confluence displays its contents publically to all and spaces can be constrained to certain user groups. However, we are using Confluence as a support centre (which has limited access to certain users we predefine) and were wondering, is there a way to publish technical documentation to our customers without them choosing a global space from the main Dashboard page? We know we can use PDF or static html but would like live content. How can we do this? Your help would be most appreciated.

Hi Shreena,

Your best option is to allow anonymous access to Confluence in the global permissions and then allow anonymous users to view the desired space. Finally you can configure the site home page to be a particular space by following the documentation at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Configuring+the+Site+Home+Page. So when anonymous users visit your Confluence instance they'll be taken to that space automatically and have permission to view it. :)

Thank you for your response.

  • Giving anonymous access would give anyone access to the pages that we mentioned we only wanted specific clients to view (i.e. client group 1, client group 2-each with their own space and permissions).
    • By anyone, this could also mean our competitors.
  • Because we have two sets of client groups, we cannot set just one homepage.
  • An alternative is to send them to the Dashboard page for them to choose the space only they have access to, however they will see the popular, all updates, favourite spaces etc. which we don't really want them to see.
  • Our original question was, instead of selecting the space from the Dashboard page, can we eliminate this step and take them straight to the space they are meant to see?
