I am having an issue with Confluence, particularly with MS word file attachments and the 'Edit in Office' function.
I can attach word docs to my Confluence space without any problems, and then subsequently open them via Confluence. But when it comes to wanting to use the Edit in Office function I get jav.lang.NullPointerException error messages. This is not a permissions issue, as I can edit, inspect properties and remove some documents on a page, but not others.
After a fair bit of experimenting, I think I may have found a possible reason - to do with the file name. It seems to be files with characters such as "~", " ' ", "–" that do not work: interestingly, shorter dashes in filenames work OK, but longer dashes fail.I appear to be able to use the Edit in Office function for files that do not contain these characters.
Could you please advise whether my guess in realtion to file names for attachements is correct. Are there any other characters that can trigger errors if they appear as part of file names?
Are you by chance using a Mac? I've found the Edit in Office function in that case often fails, I believe because Mac WebDav (which Edit in Office uses) is screwed up.
