Disabling vs Deleting terminated end-users

Russ Jang April 1, 2021

For employee terminations, what have others been doing with accounts?

  • Do you disable or delete them?
  • What happens to content they created or contributed to?
  • How can you determine if a user has contributed to any content?

Hi @Russ Jang

Normally it is recommended to just disable. Disabling them removes their license so they are not counting against your user allotment. However to delete a user, depending on the tool it will remove any references to the user. So for Confluence, this would mean it removes their name from any place they had entered their name with the unknown user text. This makes it hard to know who actually worked on the content in regards to adding updates to it. It also doesn't look good at all.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Clark.

That's very helpful.  We'll continue disabling then.
