Creation of Global Variables permission

This pages states.

  1. Click the  icon and select Global Variables.

I have Admin access, but when I click the "cog" icon I do not see the Global Variables option.

I need some guidance as to how to create a Global Variable that I can place within my pages and/or templates

Basically I need a place in Confluence where I can define a variablename like <Application Name>, or <Version Number>, or <Product Manager> and when I type $variablename.appname, or $variablename.version or $variablename.productmanager it will just pull in that value when I select from a Template which has one of my variables.  My apologies if this is not clear.

Hi Casey,

To verify, you are referring to Confluence and not Bamboo, correct? I ask because the article you referenced is for Bamboo.

Confluence doesn't have a way for users to set global variables, but there's a feature request for it:

I recommend that you vote on that and comment with your usage case, so it will help us to understand the need for it.

Let me know if you have any questions about that.

Kind Regards,

Yes, it is Confserver, not Bamboo.

Sorry but 'voting' on a issue will not resolve my immediate need to implement this in my documentation.  So I think I will have to find another option.  Maybe a plugin. it seems to be 'Resolved', but I do not see how these can be implemented.

Hi Casey,

Impliment system variables into confluence/spaces/pages so macros and other features can call them was closed as a duplicate of the one Shannon linked: Global variables

This comment on that ticket recommends a plugin: projectdoc Toolbox for Confluence

I hope the plugin can help with your immediate implementation requirement.

Hi Casey,

We faced the same problem and solved it by implementing an App. Have look on the Marketplace. It's called Easy Space Variables (only for Confluence Server).
