Convert existing template to the new editor

When I edit my template to see if I can convert it to the new editor so that it doesn't have to ask me when I create new document with the template there isn't a footer notification to ask me if I want to convert it.

What I'm expecting when I edit my template:

I tried replacing the elements I know will break every time I try to convert my document to the new editor but it continues to break. I'm hoping I don't have to resort to create a brand new template that is the same as my old one. I need a way for me to use the new editor without having to replace elements that are broken.

I'm also wondering if delete / re-create is the way forward?

I have only simple elements on the page but convert is not availabe in the template editor.
