Connect to Teams

Cori Cohen December 12, 2023

We want to be able to have a template already setup in every teams meetings for meeting notes and then be able to post it to a child page within a space. Is this possible, and what are the steps?

@Cori Cohen check out this space and page: Examples of content

I tried to share this publicly but I guess Atlassian has decided that that isn't as straightforward to do as expected.

Below is how I set up a page for recurring meeting notes. I have the button at the upper right which will spawn a new page using my custom meeting notes template. It will have a RAIL section of incomplete tasks/actions from every meeting page.

This is my example of a custom meeting notes page. Note the highlighted section in edit mode. This is what you see if you use the include page widget. That is the Teams Meeting Notes for the same meeting. Think of the custom template as the agenda and the teams version as the notetaking.

The last screenshot shows the navigation bar and where everything is. Notice that in this case I moved the whole Teams Notes section under the main page to kind of keep them together but it isn't necessary to include the page.

@Danno  if it's not too much trouble that would be great if you could send me a demonstration of it. Thank you!

@Cori Cohen Yes, it will always go to the Teams Note page. What I would consider is using a section on your template page or main page for the project/team/whatever and have it list the Teams Meeting Notes that have a label that ties it to the page you want to include them on. A direct link to the notes. You can also have the contents of the Teams Notes on the main page if you want. You could put that as a section in your template.

I hope that makes sense. If not, let me know. I can create a space/page that demonstrates it.

@Danno no worries at all, I appreciate the information! That makes sense. Do you know if the meeting notes have to be posted under the page called Microsoft Teams Notes or if we can designate it to go in a specific child page? It only allows me to choose the space when publishing in teams and not a specific child page so I would assume not but just wanted to get your thoughts. Thank you!

@Cori Cohen Ack!, I totally missed that you wanted to have a template page show up in Teams. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to pull in an existing template to directly edit within Teams. You can attach an existing page to a meeting or a Team, or to a chat, that has an agenda perhaps but the only way to edit it within the meeting is to open it within Confluence. The only way to take meeting notes within Teams during a meeting (in the sidebar) is with the blank template.

I do understand your pain since I wanted to do this years ago. If it was a regular team meeting I would just share my screen during the meeting and make updates to it, otherwise, if it was an unscheduled call to discuss I would use the sidebar blank page to capture notes and then save it to the correct space.  I hope that makes sense.

Thank you, @Danno Danno! I created the template, but how do I access it in a teams meeting now and then have it posted to a child page?

@Cori Cohen you need to navigate to the Space settings and then to templates.

Once there, you will see the existing templates that you can copy and then modify them to fit your situation. Good luck.
