Dear everyone,
We just wanted to start with Confluence and I didn't pay attation for the user rights because I thought that is quite easy. But I am not able to setup confluence for my needs. Actualy I think my request is kind of easy and I am sure it is possible, but I read some articles about the user right managment but I found no solution.
Lets say we have one company space and one space for Team T1 and one space for Team T2. Now we have the User A, B and C. Everyone is inside the group "confuence-users". Then I created a group called "Team T1" with User A and B, and one group "Team T2" with user C.
Team A: User A + B
Team B: User C
I want that everyone can read everything on conflunece (User C can read Pages from Team A) but they should not add or edit anything to their space.
This is already working:
Space Team A:
(group rights): confluence-users: All View : true, all other set to false
(group rights): team t1 : Everything true, beside delete and admin
(user rights): User A: Everything (including delete and admin - he is the key users for this space)
Now I wanted to setup the company space. Basically nobody has the right to add or edit anything, beside of one key user (A).
(group rights): confluence-users: All view: true, all other set to false
(user rights): User A: Everyhing
This is working as well. But now I want that user C can edit one particular page inside the company space. User A opened that page, choose Restrict and put a restriction to User B for editing. But as soon as User B opens that page, not "edit" link is available.
I think the problem is, that User B is also in the confluence-user group and they do not have the right for editing the pages. But what can I do to solve this? We do have some pages within the company space which needs to be modified by some key users.
My last question is, how can I restrict a group not to create new pages but editing one page instead? In the user rights I have the option for "add", "restrict" and "delete", but no "edit". I guess "add" means adding and editing?
Thanks for your help.
Hauke
PS: I use the German version of confluence and I am not quite sure if I am using the right wordings.
Hi,
the problem here is that confluence permissions work top down: if a user is not allowed to edit in a space, he can not edit ANY page in the space, even if he has the "restriction" to edit it.
Possible solution:
Add edit permissions to space for user b, restrict pages that user B is not allowed to edit (keep in mid that view restrictions are inherited, edit restrictions are not.)
All in all, that's a bit more complicated than one would think
Wish you luck,
Lukas
