I have just started a Confluence trial. Is there a limitation on it because I can't seem to add any addons from the marketplace?

Yes, adding addons is part of the Restricted Functions in Confluence OnDemand, I refer you to this document where you can see all restricted functions in OnDemand https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Restricted+Functions+in+Atlassian+OnDemand

Hi Erik, yes there is. There's only a bunch of plugins that can be used on the OD version. To be able to install any plugin you have to use the Standalone Version.
