Confluence cold failover without Data Center

Dmitri Abrosov [Teamlead] March 18, 2016

Is it possible to make cold failover for not DC Confluence? Here is what I'm planning to do:

  1. Replicate Confluence DB to another server.
  2. Rsync Confluence Data folder to another server.
  3. In case of main Confluence server stops answering we either switch our web-server to another server or automatically by balancer.

Have anybody used such configuration? Is there any hidden pitfalls?

In theory this should work. We do something very similar to replicate our production environment into a separate environment for testing new releases.

As with any backup procedure like this, your biggest problems will likely come about because your file system is out of sync with the database because of differences in timing between the rsync and replication.
