Confluence bulk page version compare

Tommy Sanddal Poulsen August 26, 2024

Hi in the community.

We have a number of situations in my company where we would like to extract/export/generate a page-version-compare/diff of a full confluence tree - comparing the current version of all the pages with the versions of a specific date/time.

Can any of you experts come up with a nice way of doing this?

HI @Tommy Sanddal Poulsen

I don't know the details of your use-case but there's Scroll Documents app that allows you to create snapshots of the space at any given moment - and save them as virtual documents.

You continue working as usual, then create another snapshot.

And I think you can compare the diffs between the current state and the snapshots.

BTW, the trees in the snapshots are independent.

Thanks for the response Kristian - it's a very interesting approach. We are actually already using scroll documents. It does, however, not seem to be able to create a bulk-diff - they have an online tool (which times out on our amount of pages) where you can view diffs page-by-page, so although a great idea I have not been able to find a way through using scroll documents.

@Tommy Sanddal Poulsen

Well, I may confuse it with the variants diff (where I see two trees side by side, although I haven't used that for a while).

Which bring me to the possibility of using Labels - something along the lines of Variants for Scroll docs... A system of labels to work along your old/new/modfied... then using Databases...

Or perhaps use labels, use Comala Publishing or Space Sync for Confluence to create 'snapshots' in the form of space...

(I'll stop talking :) )

Hi Johanna, I'm not sure I encountered any bugs/problems with the app - it may simply be that the functionality I need is not available in the Scroll Documents app.

I need to be able to extract a report of all changed pages (between 2 dates or snapshots) - with the actual compare-differences visualized also.

Would you say that this is available currently from the Scroll Documents app? And in case it is, can you point me in the right direction ;-)

Without looking to see if there are any Marketplace add-ons, and there are some great backup and restore add-ons, I would suggest starting to export spaces as CSV on a schedule. Then, you can use standard diff tools to diff the exports.

Not sure if that qualifies as a nice way.  Look in the Marketplace for Backup tools.

Thanks Shawn - that would be a way to go, and I'll definitely look at the 3rd party backup-services.

Preferably the diff should be somehow readable and understandable for a non-techie-reader so my hope are not too high - but I'll give it a go.

Thanks for chipping in
