Companion app stopped working

Until today, the Companion app worked flawlessly on our system.  We are running Confluence DC 7.19.14 and the companion app is 1.6.1.

We do connect to confluence using windows certificates and there is no problem with connecting and logging into confluence but when trying to edit a file I get the following in the companion log:

My system did do a windows update yesterday so I'm not sure if one of the cumulative updates messed up something with the process or not. 

I have rebooted, uninstalled companion app and reinstalled it, verified I an logged into confluence.

For others affected, a bug has been opened under https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-94080. I'd urge you to vote on it by clicking " This affects my team"  under "Affected customers".

Please re-implement this. We see that it seems to still works with 1.4.6, but we require this for newer 2.x clients.
