Children Display macro sometimes showing up as a restricted page

Jim Caldarise August 10, 2022

Hi all,

We're seeing odd behavior on some of our menu pages which use the Children Display macro. When a user navigates to one of these pages, they *sometimes* get the "You've stumbled on restricted content" warning. When this happens, if they refresh the page or click the "Request access" button, the page immediately reloads and appears normally. We are not able to predict when it will happen, and therefore cannot reproduce the issue on demand. This happens frequently in one space in particular, but has also been observed in other spaces. All users who experience this issue have the proper permissions to view the space and all children pages.

Some notes:

  • We are using Confluence Cloud
  • Our wiki is for internal use only
  • The pages containing the Children Display macro do not have any special restrictions
  • None of the children pages have any restrictions
  • Restrictions are specified at the space level
  • This has happened to users with varying levels of permissions, including general users, the admins for the space where it's occurring, and at least once to one of our site admins.
  • This has occurred, at various times, when navigating to the menu page using a bookmark, the side-navigation menu, and when clicking a link send to the user.
  • All users are using Chrome.
  • The page where it occurs most frequently has 100 child pages to display, the others have 5-10 children each.

Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks!
