Cannot get quick search to work on large corp site (noob Q)

I'm sort of new to Confluence, and have recently discovered that searches for terms I have placed on pages cannot be found via quick search. Do I need to enable search for a page I create? There does not _seem_ to be an option for this.

It is a large corporate Confluence site, and search in general seems to work just fine, but when I put a unique phrase on one of my created pages, search fails to find it.

Does the page have to be explicitly (i.e. manually) linked to a "known" page? My page appears in the page tree but is not linked to from elsewhere.

Thanks! I know it's a noob question but I'm stuck.

Confluence may need to be indexed.
