Cannot access or delete a Confluence page - HTTP Status 400

Martin Fogarty December 17, 2019

I created a Confluence page with the following characters in the title <->. The page was created but I cannot access it. I see the following error:

HTTP Status 400 – Bad Request

Type Exception Report

Message Invalid character found in the request target. The valid characters are defined in RFC 7230 and RFC 3986

I also cannot delete it. Any suggestions on how to fix this or at least delete the page?

Try the following. A word of warning, this is my best recollection of what I did to get around the issue at the time.

I did a dummy delete of a page to see what the "delete" URl looked like. In my case, it looked as follows:

https://<my atlassian url>/wiki/pages/removepage.action?pageId=40726201185

So the trick is to find the pageIds of the offending pages and then create the appropriate URL. I think this bypasses whatever check is causing the exception

Thanks, this worked like a charm, we had one page that we could not delete.

I also have this issue, a few pages were created with | or other illegal characters, there was no warning when creating the page but now I can't edit or delete the pages and they are polluting our space.  How can these be modified or deleted?
