I'm looking to track milestone dates across a number of process stages for each confluence page. For example
I need to maintain the due date at both the individual Area confluence page, and again replicated in the summary page with the table above.
I can use page properties report to do most of this, but the section I'm struggling with is the free text comments. Is there any way to be able to capture free text comments against the summary page?

We can suggest trying the app that we develop - Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence.
Then you may use the Table Transformer macro to add manual comments to the Page Properties Report. Please check the second part of this Community thread where we show how to do the same thing with the Jira Issues macro.
In your case the unique column to look up your tables will be the 'Areas' or 'Page Title' column.
And the second option may be to use the Spreadsheet from Table macro.
You just wrap your Page Properties Report in the Spreadsheet from Table macro, and your report is turned into an Excel-like sheet. So, you will be able to use extra columns for comments, formulas, and so on.
