clearing up permissions in confluence

Julie Tholen
May 11, 2018

So I have been set a task to grant permission to edit to a special group of people for a locked down space that I had nothing to do with setting up. Here is is permission structure that I have to work with:

All Users - can view everything - BIGGEST group - everyone seems to belong to it

Sr Users - can view, add pages, edit all pages

Special Users - can view, edit - one CHILD pages, buried several layers down on the page tree.

Admins- everything

So far, I have tried

  • creating a special users group and assigned them edit permissions - that didn't work because they are members of the ALL USERS group which can't do anything but view
  • adding them as individuals
  • removing them from the ALL USERS group - waiting on that result for that move
  • NOW I have moved one of the pages out from under the tree canopy, and applied edit restrictions to it alone for the Special Users... let's see what happens...

How have you dealt with complicated permission structures?
