The new Confluence Cloud editor, what is good and what is bad?

Marcel van der Vliet June 5, 2019

Somewhere around April 2019 Atlassian decided to start rolling out the new editor:

Confluence Editing Improvements

There are a few improvements, but I lost many more features that I really liked. I will maintain the list below, hoping that maybe it will be picked up.

Functionality lost

  1. Not being able to show attachments as links (in a simple way)
  2. Not being able to define images in px or in the original size
  3. Not being able to make text red anymore. There are only 5 colors to choose form and according to the improvement orange is new red.
  4. Forced centering of the pages, resulting in a lot of white space.
  5. Very minimal documentation of the new features (and lost features). The above link is all I could find. Most searches provide me results of the 'old editor'.
  6. This is just a start and I hope I can keep editing this list.

Improvements

  1. I think the CTRL K to insert Links is better now (had to get used to it)

Please add what you think is better or worse below in the comments.

Thanks

Marcel

I find the WYSIWYG macro preview and / commands very useful.

Also, Here's a post related to New Editing experience.

The functionality lost has been very frustrating to me.  No more nested check lists?  All of the extra white space, vertically & horizontally, means I can see less on the screen at once.  I go through all of the extra steps to use the old editor, and have to tell my teammates to do the same.  What a shame.  I even reached out to Confluence to give my feedback, and they ignored it.

Please bring back the ability to use the old editor as the default.  Thank you.

What users is Confluence trying to convey to?
Definitely not users who want to convey information - like my company.

As Randy Cox stated, why all the white space?
If you want to convey information, look at newspapers or scientific papers.

The only information that white space conveys is that there is no information!
The old editor was already creating too much unwanted white space. But why replace it with one that creates even more white space?

Question to Confluences development team:
What is the audience you cater to?
