Tips for Confluence Administrators: Part 1

2023 is my 4th year as Confluence Data Center administrator. I know that many users in the community are using Confluence Cloud. It is really good and you can get a lot of new features.

However, based on the advantages of stability, excellent performance, and local deployment, Server/DC still has a wide range of users, and I am one of them.

I will use 5 posts to share with you some cases I have encountered in the past 4 years and what I have learned from the community. They all come from the community, and I just indexed them. Hope it helpful!

How to skip the onboarding page (welcome.action) for new users in Confluence

To disable the "Welcome" page received by new users when logging into Confluence for the first time.

A maximum of 12 people can edit a page at the same time. This means that people can't enter the editor if there are already 12 other people editing the page, and will need to wait until someone leaves.

How to put an iFrame into Confluence

An IFrame (Inline Frame) is an HTML document embedded inside another HTML document on a website. The IFrame HTML element is often used to insert content from another source, such as an advertisement, into a Web page.

Finding Unused Spaces or Pages

Sometimes, you want to know what is not being used. It's great to know what's getting most attention, but what about stagnant pages, or even entire spaces that are no longer active?

How do I make my page completely private?

The short answer is, you can't. Confluences are designed to be open. Share work with your team. While you can limit your own pages, it's important to note that:

• Space administrators can always remove page restrictions, even pages they can't see.
• People with Confluence Administrator and System Administrator global permissions can't see your page by default, but they can grant themselves space administrator permissions to that space.
• Members of the confluence-administrators supergroup can see all spaces and pages. This group grants the highest privileges in Confluence. Some organizations use this group heavily, while others don't use it at all.

How to prevent a Space Administrator from delete their Space?

How do you configure Confluence to prevent a Space Administrator from deleting their Space. We want to make this a Confluence Administrator task. We are having to restore Spaces that were deleted and then needed by the Space users.

• Restore same name pages from trash should not overwrite the existing page but add a history version

• As a user I want Saved for later page/tab in Confluence to have the same sorting mechanism

• Copy/paste table cells does not work as expected when header cells are merged
• Confluence allows Page to be renamed to a title that has already existed(and restricted)
• Limited number of users with the same name appeared in the page restriction search
• Can't Copy Table Header
• Duplicated content in pages after running Synchrony Hard Data Removal

• Global Find and replace

• Link Report/Link Validator
• Record permission changes in page history
• Page edit permissions should be inherited by pages, like view permissions are
• Text statistics like word count, character count, etc.
• Provide ability to override Lucene tokenisation and stemming and search for exact text (literal search)
• Allow admins to change Lucene's stop words
• Disabling the ability to view the "Page History" on a space
• Support for vertical alignment of table cell contents
• Reverse ordering of comment lists

THANK YOU for making this article. So helpful and to bullet point everything.

Is there a way to find unused spaces and pages for Cloud? We are in a situation where we had it for every new user, a personal space was created. We turned that off since, but for offboarding or maintenance purposes, it would be helpful to find easily pages or spaces not utilized. Right now I just go through spaces and go in one by one. Which is a time consuming job in itself. I am a site admin, but if there is a way to see spaces that have privacy as well, would be helpful to see if that person/people have left the company. The ability to search and clean accordingly would be a great house keeping activity.
