Automatically label your pages with AI 🏷️ ⚡️🤖

👋 Community! Avinoam from Confluence Automation here today with an extra exciting announcement: In addition to recent new AI actions, you can now also use AI in automation to create your labels for you, so you don’t have to!

What does it look like?

First a bit of context on why we built this

Labels are one of the most used tools in Confluence to help you manage a source of truth, making it easier to keep content neat and organized (e.g. adding a RECRUITING label to all pages related to hiring new talent). We’ve heard you loud and clear on both how important label management is but also just how difficult it can be to manage - causing many pages to have the wrong labels or miss labels altogether.

In comes Automation + AI

You’ve also told us how much of a game changer it is to be able to automate your label management with automation, but that even with that, sometimes it doesn’t cover all the bases. That’s where AI comes in

With the new label action called “Add label with AI,” you can now use AI to automatically generate smart labels based on the context of the page, title, and any specified criteria you give it.

Let’s run through an example

You want to make sure that whenever someone at your company writes a welcome or farewell blog in Confluence that it gets labeled with “welcome-blog” or “farewell-blog”. In the rule builder you’d add a trigger for “Blog published” and then the new “Add label with AI” action.

Within the “Add label with AI” action you can add one or multiple smart labels which you’d specify the following:

1. The label you’d like to have added

2. “Specified criteria that AI will use to determine whether to add the label:

   1. Dropdown: Does the content body and title relate to the label?

   2. Free form: You can add a definition of what a welcome or farewell blog usually contains or is about for AI to help infer from.

3. Once you’re done adding your smart labels with their specific criteria, you’ll save your new rule.

4. In this example, we used AI to generate a farewell blog and once it was published, the new “farewell-blog” label has been added according to the specified criteria we used in our automation rule to have AI infer that this page should have the “farewell-blog” label added.

When will this be available?

This is fully available and live for all Premium and Enterprise Confluence customers with AI enabled and we hope you find these new automated AI-powered labels valuable in your mission to always keep your content up to date!

Are there plans for similar implementation for JIRA tickets?  This would be more powerful than existing JIRA automation where labelling is not leveraging AI (as far as I know)

@Callum_Ashdown great question. The long term goal with all of these editions is to eventually make them available across all automation products, so stay tuned!
