Add Jira project boards and backlog views into your Confluence pages to create better reports

Hi there! I’m David Olive, a Product Manager focused on integrations between Confluence and Jira.

A few months ago, we rolled out Smart Link support for Jira dashboards, letting you embed Jira dashboards and gadgets directly into Confluence pages. This was a game-changer for creating reports, project updates, and providing commentary on in-progress work for stakeholders and leadership.

We’ve got some great news to share with you: Today, Smart Link support now extends to Jira project boards and backlogs. No more clunky screenshots. Just copy, paste, and configure views of your Jira project boards and backlog seamlessly in Confluence.

Whether you’re sharing project status reports, leading capacity planning, or working through quarterly and annual planning, this new feature will help simplify your reporting workflows and make it easier to plan and report on work to stakeholders.

Take a look at the GIFs below for a visual guide on getting started

  1. Select your backlog or project board: Head over to your Jira backlog or Jira board. Choose the data you want to embed by clicking on the ‘Share’ button at the top right of your screen and then select ‘Copy link'.

  2. Customize your pages: Navigate to your Confluence page and paste the link — it will automatically embed a backlog or project board view. Then, tailor the page to suit your needs. You can change the size of the embed and also specific board or backlog view settings and filters.

  3. Share and collaborate: Spread the word! Share your Confluence page with your team and stakeholders where they can comment and provide feedback directly in Confluence.

Note: In order to view the Jira dashboard on a Confluence page, your team and stakeholders will need to have a Jira license.

Check out this new integration today and let us know what you think. We’re all ears!

This is such a nice feature!

I’m curious about how it handles historical data. For instance, we prepare a weekly status report, so while it’s fantastic to have a real-time view, it would be helpful if the information on the page could remain as-is for that specific reporting period. Is there a way to “freeze” the backlog or board for each week? This would be great for maintaining an accurate record over time. Thanks!

Will this work in a consultant/client relationship, where each party has it's own Atlassian licenses?

Our use-case is that we are working with a consultancy (A) who will be managing project tasks in their JIRA instance instance; they will be providing some of us licenses on their instance so we can work with them, however, we (B) also have our own Atlassian licenses (JIRA & Confluence) and the business partner here prefers to use Confluence for reporting status etc.. If I had a license to access the JIRA boards and task info on the consultants (A) instance, can I use that Smartlink to surface the views on our (B) Confluence instance for our business stakeholders to view?
