Problem importing space: ConstraintViolationException

Wojciech Zakrzewski March 12, 2019

Hello,

I tried to import confluence space into Confluence in the cloud.

Export was made from another Confluence (XML file + attachments).

When i tried to import for the first time everything went smooth. I wanted to repeat the procedure so I deleted imported space (there aren;t any other spaces, this is 'fresh' confluence) and tried again. This time at the end of the import i got:
com.atlassian.confluence.importexport.ImportExportException: Unable to complete import: Error while importing backup: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException: could not execute statement

and space was not imported.

There aren't any logs so I am not able to check specifically what happened.
How can this be checked? How to fix this error?

My new client wants to use Confluence but it seems that old space (from another project) cannot be imported.

Hello there!

As I understand Wojciech, the second time that a space import was executed it did not finish.

This error excerpt could mean a few things, such as:

  1. Connect add-on users have the same email (noreply@mailer.atlassian.com)
  2. Users from other directories that were imported and are duplicated

With this in mind, we could walk towards a few questions about your instance:

  1. Is this XML export from Confluence Cloud or Server?
  2. If this XML came from Server, which version was running?
  3. Are you able to restore other backups on the same instance?
  4. Are you still able to create spaces in Confluence?

Looking forward to your reply Wojciech!

I think 1. and 2. are not the case here because i tried to do import on clean instance.

For rest of your points:

1. From Confluence Cloud i suppose, though i cannot be 100% sure. Is there a way to check in within export files?

2. Anyway, on source Confluence I can see version 6.14.1 in the footer

3. Yes.

4. Yes.

I tried to import the same on another cloud instance, client's target. There was an empty space with the same name. I removed it and try to import - result is the same:

com.atlassian.confluence.importexport.ImportExportException: Unable to complete import: Error while importing backup: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException: could not execute statement
