News for Confluence Cloud is changing!
News for Confluence Cloud is changing!
A new major release is coming for News for Confluence Cloud, which will become known as News Board Lite.
A new paid version, News Board, will also be released in the near future.
What's changing in the News Board Lite release?
One of the main changes in this major release is a complete update to the design of the news page:
Changes to how the news page works include:
- If the first featured blogpost includes a big enough image, it will be shown as a hero in the first row (followed by a 2 x 3 grid). However, if the most recent image doesn't have a suitable image, a 3 x 3 grid will be shown instead.
- If you insert a YouTube video using the Widget macro, it will extract a preview image from the video.
- For logged-in users, the numbers of likes on a post will now be shown.
You will also be able to control the category lozenges (News, People, and Important):
- Insert a "Profile Picture" on your featured blogpost, and it will be tagged as "People". Any images will be ignored, and it will use the profile image instead. Use this to introduce team members or provide recognition.
- Insert a "Warning Panel" on your featured blogpost, and it will be tagged as "Important". Any images will be ignored. Use this to highlight must-read content.
- Everything else will appear as "News".
Featuring Blogposts
The button to feature posts will also move to the right-hand page tools menu. There will still be an indicator to show if a blogpost has been featured.
What will be different in the new paid version, News Board?
The new paid News Board version will have additional features that include:
- Feature pages and blogposts
- Custom categories
- Pinned content
- Custom colour schemes
- Rename your news page
On the roadmap for News Board are other layout options and tools to help you manage your featured content.
