You've probably all seen this - screenshots on your Confluence pages appear blurred and low quality. That's visible especially on a images depicting smaller parts of the UI.
TL;DR - whenever possible, always take the screenshot from a so-called retina screen or a screen that's set to a scaled mode. If you have a MacBook and an extra screen, take the screenshot on the MacBook's screen.
Here follows the technical explanation - it comes down to the difference between the screen's physical pixel resolution and the displayed resolution.
-------------------------------------------------
That bluriness typically happens when you take the screenshot from a non-retina (or unscaled) screen and then view it on a retina/scaled screen.
Example: Your screen has the resolution of 1680x1050 and the same amount of physical pixels. If you take a 640x480 pixel screenshot, if looks just fine on your 1680x1050 screen.
However, if you display the same page on a retina/scaled screen, it will be blurry.
That's because retina/scaled screens have more pixels than they typically display. For example, MacBook Air screen's physical resolution is 2560x1600 pixels but displays (scales) everything to 1680x1050 pix. 4K screens have 3840x2160 pixels but are usually used scaled to 2560x1440 or 3008x1692 displayed pixels.
Websites, including, Confluence pages, scale up easily when it comes to text and UI. Your 640x480 will be scaled up too - but beyond it's physical dimensions. Hence, it will appear blurry.
However, a screenshot of the displayed area of 640x480 pixels taken on the abovementioned MB Air (with the said scaling setup) has the physical dimensions of 1280x960, thus allowing for extra scaling.
I took the following screenshot in Snagit using a 640x480 preset on the said MB Air. If you download it, you'll see the physical dimensions are 1280x960.
